Phillip W. Bennion, MD
Dr. Bennion received a bachelor degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University where he was awarded the De La Vega Academic Scholarship for academic achievement. He was selected for early election to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated with honors. Dr. Bennion completed his orthopedic residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.
Following his orthopedic education, Dr. Bennion was awarded a fellowship at the distinguished Carrell Clinic in Dallas, Texas where he obtained specialized training in shoulder and elbow surgery. He was privileged to train there under renowned shoulder surgeons Drs. Wayne Z. Burkhead and Sumant G. Krishnan.
Dr. Bennion has special interest in the treatment of rotator cuff disease, athletic and industrial injuries, and shoulder arthritis. He performs arthroscopic, reconstructive and replacement surgery of the shoulder, including reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Dr. Bennion has authored and coauthored scientific publications, including articles and book chapters on topics related to shoulder surgery. Additionally, he is extensively trained in general orthopedics, including knee arthroscopy, knee replacement and orthopedic fracture management.
Dr. Bennion is currently a candidate Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is committed to providing the highest quality of treatment and service for his patients and believes in individualizing his care for each patient based on their unique needs.
Joining the Arizona Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders in 2008, Dr. Bennion has returned to his hometown of Phoenix. Married to an OBGYN and father of two, he enjoys family and is an avid runner.
